While love should be spoken, it should also be guided. Expression without wisdom can lead to confusion, and emotion without balance can become overwhelming.
The Bible consistently shows us that love flourishes when younger hearts walk alongside older, wiser voices. In Ruth 3, Ruth did not navigate love alone, she spoke with Naomi, who guided her with wisdom, clarity, and care. Also. In the book of Samuel, Samuel heard God’s voice but needed Eli to help him understand it (1 Samuel 3). Even Jesus Christ grew “in wisdom and stature” (Luke 2:52), reminding us that growth is a process.
Romantic feelings are real, but they are not meant to be carried alone.
Young people are encouraged to speak with older people they trust, like parents, mentors, leaders, spiritually mature believers, not to be controlled, but to be guided and protected. Guidance is not a lack of faith; it is an act of wisdom.
At the same time, love must be balanced, because love is safe when there is balance.
Romantic love is a beautiful gift, but it is not the highest form of love. The Bible shows us romantic love, as seen in yesterday’s post, friendship, and also introduces us to agape love, which anchors every other expression of affection.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13 that love is patient, kind, disciplined, and not self-seeking. That chapter is often read at weddings, but it is first a spiritual instruction, not a romantic fantasy. That does not mean it is a rejection of romance, but a call to maturity and balance.
This balance applies to everyone, singles and couples alike. Being in a relationship does not remove the need for guidance and wisdom. Being single does not mean your feelings are invalid or insignificant. Remember that we are all learning to love well.
If there are two things to take away from here, they are:
• Love is safe when emotions do not overpower values.
• Love is safe when affection does not replace discernment.
Stay tuned for the next episode.
