LOVE IS SAFE WHEN BOUNDARIES ARE HONOURED AND WE WALK TOGETHER

Love isn’t proven by pressure. It’s not measured by how much you give up, how fast you move, or how much you endure in silence.

The Bible teaches us that love always walks with honour and restraint. In Genesis 39, Joseph loved God and respected boundaries even when pressured and tempted. The Song of Solomon repeatedly warns us: “Do not awaken love until it so desires” (Song of Solomon 2:7). This isn’t a denial of romance; it’s protection for the heart.

Love is safe when boundaries are honoured; emotional, physical, spiritual, and moral boundaries alike.

Boundaries are not signs of fear; they’re signs of wisdom. Acting on feelings should come when love is mutual, moral, mature, and accountable. Anything else risks harm to faith, to emotions, and to relationships.

But love isn’t meant to be walked alone.

God designed love to grow within community. The Church is meant to be a place where generations walk together, that is, younger people learning, older people guiding, couples modelling healthy love, singles growing in purpose, and everyone covered by grace.

During Lent, we’re reminded to slow down, reflect, and realign our hearts with God. This season doesn’t reject love. It calls us to love with patience, humility, and self-control. It reminds us that love must first be safe before it’s celebrated.

So let us build a culture where boundaries are respected, conversations are honest, guidance is shared with humility, and generations work together. Because love that comes from God doesn’t harm; it’s safe.

If there are two things to take away from here, they are:
• Love is safe when it’s not proven by pressure.
• Love is safe when it waits for the right time, right setting, and right commitment.
